Main results from the research project:

  • A complex methodology for multi-criteria selection of a transport scheme for urban electric transport has been developed, which includes an integrated two-stage optimization model and an aggregated multi-criteria approach. The complex methodology has been experimented for tram and trolleybus transport in Sofia.
  • Criteria have been defined for: assessing tram and trolleybus transport schemes; assessing areas with heavy traffic; assessing transport flows and creating a simulation through intersections with traffic lights; assessing transport services.
  • A multi-criteria linear optimization model with integer variables has been developed for the analysis of urban transport routes to determine the appropriate use of rolling stock according to the criteria of minimum total operating costs and minimum total emissions. The model has been applied to urban transport in Ruse.
  • A simulation model has been developed for the selection of vehicles to serve a certain number of routes. The model was experimented for a selection of 20 possible vehicles, from which 5 routes should be served. A Pareto optimal set of ten solutions was obtained, which the decision maker can use operationally in a specific situation.
  • A model based on correlation and regression analysis was developed to study the dependence of battery operation in the movement of battery-powered trolleybuses on unit traction consumption. The model was applied to the trolleybus transport in Žilina, Slovakia, running on batteries.
  • A model based on correlation and regression analysis was developed to study fuel consumption by selected characteristics of bus lines. The approbation was carried out for two regions in Slovakia with bus lines with different characteristics, diverse terrain and diverse population distribution.
  • A methodology for quantifying technological processes for vehicles using alternative propulsion was developed. The methodology is based on the principles of process mapping and the network analysis method, and has been validated for passenger rail transport in Slovakia.
  • A new integrated multi-criteria decision-making approach SIMUS – Game Theory for selecting a transport operator for servicing transport on a given route has been developed. The model has been experimented with for selecting a route and operator for rail and bus transport.
  • A system has been developed for modelling and studying the organization of traffic flow management at intersections regulated by traffic light systems. A methodology has been developed for designing a digital twin of a roundabout to assess the state of the environment and the organization of road traffic. A model of road traffic and optimization of the throughput capacity of streets has been created. The models have been experimented with for intersections in Ruse.
  • A methodology has been developed for analysing the propagation of structure-borne noise generated in the contact patch between the pneumatic tire and the road, consisting of model (theoretical) and experimental studies.
  • A multi-criteria model has been developed for assessing and classifying sections with heavy traffic. Carbon dioxide emissions in busy traffic areas in Sofia have been studied. A classification of the seven busy traffic areas in Sofia has been carried out.
  • Methods for conducting experimental studies in the field of the application of gaseous fuels in internal combustion engines have been developed.
  • Experimental studies have been conducted on the influence of hydrogen on the parameters of the combustion process of a diesel engine.
  • An experimental study of the influence of compressed natural gas on the parameters of the combustion process and the effective indicators of a gasoline engine operating in dual-fuel mode has been conducted.
  • Methods for cleaning individual fuels by extraction with polar solvents have been developed. To study the energy and environmental efficiency of middle distillate fuels, model systems containing diesel oil for off-road and tractor equipment, first and second-generation biodiesel, as well as a low-octane component have been created.
